Honey Dippers

In order to clean out outhouses, men, referred to as "honey dippers" would visit towns on a regular basis in a truck equipped with large hoses to suction out the contents of the out door toilets. In this photo you can see the truck with the hoses on the left backed up to the outhouse on the right. Although this 1939 photo is from the town of Clymer, Indiana County, PA., McIntyre and other coal towns were also visited by teams of "honey dippers."
